$tep 1:
Developing a Money Making Idea

The first step, seen the television shows, and heard about it from your friends. Regular everyday people are literally making millions on the internet. People from all walks of life - old people, young people, Harvard graduates and secondary school drop outs -  are literally transforming their financial lives. So, the question is: What exactly is it that they are doing?

An untapped market

There is no secret magic or trick. No hidden knowledge or insider information. Making money on the web is really no different than making money anywhere else. The key is an untapped market. The computer - more specifically - the internet has become a household appliance. Billions of consumer dollars are sitting behind a computer screen right now, waiting to be turned over to someone else. The only trick  is convincing them that YOU are worthy of that donation. An increasingly difficult task to be sure, however, there are other means previously unavailable to 99.9% of the population to supplement, or even provide a sole means of income. ADVERTISING

Your own personal ad agency

Until very recently, unless you owned or managed a large network television station or publishing corporation, profit by sale was the only means of income the average entrepreneur had access to. With the spread and massive popularity of the World Wide Web, the world has changed dramatically and so has the way the world does business. Just as television changed our entire existence, the internet has taken that concept to an even higher level. A company who does not focus their advertising dollars on the internet is a company that will not exist a few very short years from now. Smart companies that realize this have taken the pioneering step in promoting their business with affiliate programs.

a special thanks to porn

Although many people snub their noses and complain about all the pornography on the internet, it's the smut and hagglers market that made the internet what it is today. With thousands of web geeks fighting for the title of "The Ultimate and Extreme Hardcore XXX" web site, It's no surprise that the first affiliate programs came from them. Initially, most of the programs paid a commission if a user signed up for access to their site via a banner or text link from your site. A good deal to be sure, except that the internet of the old days was filled mostly with hackers and braniacs who quickly figured out ways to exploit these systems. Then came the pay-per-click sites. Generally sites offering "free" membership for a "limited time only" would pay anyone who had a site to put an advertisement on their page. The hosting web master would be paid a meager sum (usually 3 or 4 cents) for each time someone clicked on their ad. It didn't take long for big business to see how successful this very cheap (comparatively speaking) form of advertisement could be.

Picking up where they left off

One by one, new multimillion dollar companies started to appear on the net. Companies like Amazon.com, eBay, and Dell found their niche, and their millions online. As the stock market reeled at their unprecedented success, the rest of the corporate world began the mad rush to the new world of internet marketing. With an uncanny resemblance to the smut peddlers, the frenzy for market share began. New affiliate programs, banner exchanges, and commission programs appeared almost overnight.

how does this help me?

With the exception of adult oriented sites, just about anyone can become an affiliate with well known reputable businesses to either supplement or provide all of your business income. Pay per click programs are good for high traffic sites, where as commission and referral (sign up) programs are good for niche specific sites. Regardless of the type of program(s) you chose to go with, the most important thing above all else is web site design and layout. If you have a bit of creativity and some time to spare, with the right tools, you can design a tasteful and successful website. Take some time to research the internet for similar ideas and page designs. Pay special attention to corporate web sites, advertising agencies and other "big money" sites. These companies have literally paid millions of dollars to find out that animated hula dancers make a page look cheesy and amateur.

Where do I begin?

The first thing to do is develop an idea for a product or service for a website. It's not necessary to invent something or even makes something tangible. Some very successful multimillion dollar websites have no tangible product what so ever. If you don't have a product or service to market, start a web page based on something that you are interested in. Chances are, there are a million other people in the world that are interested in the same things. Target your advertising towards your potential audience. Promote your site using search engine tools. Keep your site fresh and looking attractive. Remember, a tattered and unkempt "store front" will be most successful at repelling visitors and potential customers. Use the tools available on this site and smile as the checks start appearing in your mailbox.
